CD+g disks are the most popular format used by karaoke players. The data encrypted onto the CD includes the backing music, lyrics that scroll in time to the music and occassionally an accompanying video. These cost more than the average CD as both production and licensing are included in the price (ranges between £12 - £30 per disc).
Although the average CDG disk is made up from a compilation of songs, some companies provide a service where you can pick your own selection of songs and they burn them to a CDG for you. This gives you the flexibility of having completely unique CDG's!

Midi tracks are usually used by musicians and professional singers. The sound quality may be dependant on the capabilities of your sound card, software program and instruments used in playing back the files. Midi files are unique in that the user can remove certain instruments, change the tempo, instrument sound and key without affecting the quality. Dvd players are relatively new in comparison with some of the other players on the market and work on a similar principal to CDs. Although the disks resemble miniature CD disks, they are capable of retaining more data which means more songs! Some players are capable of recording and there are even DVD player/writers available for computers!
Karaoke cassettes are similar to karaoke cd's, with the lyrics printed on the jacket insert or provided in an accompanying booklet. Many of the tracks have 'lead in' vocals or an instrument playing the melody line. Track arrangements and keys may be different from the original song and the musical quality sometimes leaves a lot to be desired. Organising Track Listings

Before you start chasing round the net try using 'Excel' which is a standard program supplied with Microsoft Office.
Create your headings i.e., Artist, Song Title, Disk No, Track No then enter the details from each individual disk - this can take some time if you have a lot of CD+g's but it's worth the effort.
Save your database file, set up the printer to A4 and print off the results!! If you want to sort the data into different formats e.g., by Artist or Song Title, you can use the sort filter in Excel. This allows you to sort and print out your karaoke track list in any format you choose including assigning colour and font preferances to the text and headings.
